Day Ten
Les Molanes 2 Nice

Today  we were close to finishing but the biggest obstacle stoop in our way - the Col de la Bonnette a 24 km climb to 2,800m, the highest paved road in Europe.​

I would like to say we smashed it but I think it was rather the other way round other than Jakob. As well as sharp inclines, we had the wind in our face, and the temperature was dipping, all on the back of yesterday's big day.

​

We all made it eventually but all had periods where we wanted to give up and get into the van. By the time we got to the top we were cold so couldn't regroup so pushed on down the massive descent to Nice.

​DOTD: Halfway up the climb today Owen passed me in the van with the back door wide open. I waved frantically to stop him and fortunately the food and supplies didn't descend down the mountain. He had just stopped to resupply Harry?  they are sharing the prize as no one wants to admit....

​

Beer of the Day:  The  Kronenberg after the climb didn't warm me up but was fantastic....

 

​​​​Cheese and Wine Update: St Emillion tonight and the cheese was finishing the last piece of Camembert  from the van for lunch. Did manage to squeeze in a end of tour curry - fantastic Jalfrezi.

​Weather Watch:

The wind didn't help us today but thankfully no rain. The temperature flipped from a chilly 12 degrees to 32 degrees at the end. Tomorrow is rain later so hopefully we will complete the ride before​

Latest blog ever - only 20km to go tomorrow so hope to be in Monte Carlo for a healthy lunch.​
